Today, Monday, I and the film crew picked up the four USS Franklin granite memorial plaques from the storage unit in downtown San Diego and packed them into the back of a rented minivan. These were the plaques that were donated to the USS Midway Museum by USS Franklin crewman Ray Bailey in 2004. We recovered the plaques in September last year and put them into storage while looking for a new home for them.

To transport the plaques, we sandwiched them between sheets of styrofoam and strapped them together to protect them. We head out tomorrow on a road trip to deliver the plaques to their new home at the USS Lexington museum in Corpus Christi, Texas. Along the way, we will interview families of the USS Franklin crew for the documentary.
